In honour of Iqbal Day, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif declared a public holiday. Iqbal Day had previously had a suspension of the national holiday for a number of years. Therefore, the government has decided to declare Novermber 9 a public holiday in all provinces of the country.
The PM has authorised the holiday, thus the entire country will celebrate the 9th of November as a public holiday. According to the official notification given by the Secretary to the Prime Minister, Dr. Syed Tauqir Shah, tomorrow will be off. Novermber 9 is now both a national holiday and an official holiday according to the report.
It is significant to note that, previous administration of PMLN suspended public holiday on Iqbal Day in 2015.
Following the 2015 ruling, PMLN filed a petition in the Lahore High Court (LHC). The petition said that the Allama Iqbal’s birthday, November 9th, should not get identity as a public holiday.
The federal government’s choice to reinstate the public holiday on Iqbal Day has also received praise from the populace. They believe that the great poet deserves to get honour with national veneration.
A 22-person committee that Senator Irfan Siddiqui lead got the go-ahead by PM Shehbaz. The purpose was create a comprehensive calendar of activities in November that will celebrate Allama Iqbal’s life, legacy, and philosophy. The government has notified the public of the details of events related to Allama Iqbal. Details have a view to creating national recognition for his contribution to Pakistan’s cultural identity.
