Army Initiates Inquiry Against Ex-ISI Chief Faiz Hameed

The Pakistan Army has launched an inquiry against retired Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed. Allegations were raised by a private housing society owner. Sources indicate that a committee, chaired by a Major General, will investigate. The inquiry follows directives from the Supreme Court.

Genesis of the Inquiry

The inquiry’s origin is a petition filed by the housing society owner. It details incidents involving Lt Gen (R) Faiz Hameed. The petitioner claims that in May 2017, Pakistan Rangers and ISI officials raided the society’s office. Valuables, including gold and cash, were seized in connection with a terrorism case.

Allegations Against Lt Gen Faiz Hameed

The petitioner alleges Lt Gen Faiz Hameed’s involvement in the incident. Efforts to mediate by Hameed’s brother were mentioned. Lt Gen Hameed purportedly communicated through a brigadier, offering to return some seized items. However, he allegedly retained a significant portion of gold and cash.

Coercion and Involvement of Retired ISI Officials

The petitioner further alleges coercion by retired ISI officials. They demanded a substantial sum of cash and sponsorship for a private television network. The petition also mentions other individuals allegedly involved in the affair.

Court Proceedings and Previous Addresses

The matter was previously addressed by the Supreme Court‘s Human Rights Cell. Former Chief Justice Saqib Nisar had ordered the destruction of relevant records. The court suggested the petitioner pursue the matter through appropriate channels.

The court noted discrepancies in handling proceedings under former Chief Justice Saqib Nisar. This raises questions about the fairness and transparency of the process.

In a separate development, Lt-Gen (Rtd) Faiz Hameed was cleared of wrongdoing in the Faizabad dharna incident. The inquiry commission found no evidence supporting allegations against him.

In summarize, the inquiry into Lt Gen Faiz Hameed’s alleged involvement in land grabbing continues. The outcome will shed light on the veracity of the allegations and uphold accountability in Pakistan’s military establishment.
