Maryam Nawaz Sharif issued an apology for an earlier tweet she had made about murdered journalist Arshad Sharif on Tuesday night. She also removed her earlier tweet.
A Twitter user yesterday on 25th October posted a picture of Sharif’s body ready to return to Pakistan in a casket.PML-N Leader, Maryam Nawaz retweeted that with these words, “I don’t feel good RTing this but this is a lesson for mankind that we must all imbibe,”.
Maryam Nawaz went on Twitter to clarify that her tweet was inappropriate after hundreds of people criticized her original. She tweeted, “My tweet was NOT aimed at mocking someone but about learning our lessons from the past.” She further wrote, “I am undoing the tweet & apologize for the hurt it may have caused to the aggrieved which never was my intention. May no one ever have to go through this pain. Prayers for the bereaved family.”
Fawad Chaudhry, a former minister of information, also expressed his outrage at Maryam Nawaz’s tweet, claiming that its purpose was to insult Arshad Sharif and he also said that she had not only added to the pain of Arshad Sharif’s family but to that of the whole nation.
PTI’s Shireen Mazari called Maryam Nawaz “extremely cruel”.
Many PTI members and supporters expressed hatred towards her for her tweet.
Not just PTI members expressed their displeasure with Maryam Nawaz’s tweet. Senior journalists also criticized Ms. Nawaz on Twitter for her word choice and timing.
