Developing Bilateral Relationships: Economic Cooperation between Iran and Pakistan


Despite warnings from the US, Pakistan and Iran have stated that they intend to increase trade and energy cooperation. The released joint communiqué emphasized their resolve to transform the shared border into an area of prosperity.
During her visit to Pakistan, President Raisi reaffirmed the goal of raising bilateral trade to $10 billion within five years. Establishing cooperative border markets, creating economic free zones, and concluding a free trade agreement are important tactics.

By putting energy projects into action and operationalizing barter commerce, both nations hope to meet the ambitious trade target. Pakistan and Iran are committed to advancing their economic partnership for mutual gain, notwithstanding US admonitions.
The Joint Business Trade Committee and the Joint Economic Commission negotiations are two initiatives aimed at enhancing economic relations. They will also facilitate trade delegations and the exchange of technical and economic expertise.
The agreement also included initiatives like designating the “Reemdan border point” as an international crossing point under TIR. Iran and Pakistan have expressed satisfaction with the TIR Convention’s progress in product shipments.
They emphasized the need for full implementation of the Convention to enhance trade efficiency and promote regional integration. The countries also promised to improve the connections between Gwadar and Chahbahar ports for their mutual benefit.
It is a shared priority to deal with issues like terrorism, drugs, and smuggling. Regular exchanges between military, security, and political leaders are crucial for efficient cooperation.


Pakistan-Iran Alliance: Regional Stability and Diplomatic Relations


Pakistan and Iran reaffirmed their commitment to using diplomatic channels and nonviolent ways to settle the Kashmir problem. They emphasized upholding sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as adhering to UN ideals.
Both countries also called for a fair resolution and denounced Israeli brutality against Palestinians. They demanded justice for Israel’s crimes, an immediate ceasefire, and humanitarian access to Gaza.
Stressing the danger of terrorist shelters in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iran promised to step up joint efforts. They want to unite in opposition to Afghan terrorism and support regional and global efforts.
As the conversation shifted to regional stability, both nations underlined how crucial it is to coordinate efforts. They concurred that stabilizing the wider ECO region and strengthening security measures were crucial.
